Reference Services Special Collections

Business Reference:
Located on the east wall behind the reference desk, this collection contains business and investing information in print. Customers can find help in starting a small business, company information, investment information, as well as many other resources. This material does not check out.

Business Periodicals: This area is located on the east wall just north of the Business Reference collection. Customers will find the latest editions of the Wall Street Journal, Money, and many other investment newspapers and magazines. Older editions of magazines and newspapers may be checked out.

Holiday Collection:
Further north the library has placed all of our holiday books together. The collection consists mainly of Christmas books, but other holiday’s are represented here as well. Most items will check out.

Career
Collection: The final special collection on the east wall is the Career Collection. Customers needing help in writing cover letters and resumes, job interviewing information, or career information in general will find a good collection of materials here. Many items may be checked out.

Vertical Files: Situated in the center isle between the east and west walls are the general vertical files and the Colorado files. The Colorado File contains local historical and government information. Patrons will also find a variety of tourist information from cities and towns across Colorado. This material does not check out. The general vertical files provides supplemental pamphlet information a variety of subjects from tourist information about Spain to how to identify and treat a spider bite. This material is available for checkout for one week.

Map Collection: Beyond the general vertical files, the library has a good collection of topographical, trail and city maps for patrons to check out.

Automotive Collection:
Located in the northwest corner of the second floor, this collection is a useful collection for the shadetree mechanic. We keep a full collection of repair manuals for cars, trucks, tractors, and motorcycles here. Many items can be checked out, and copies can be made of those items that are for reference use only.

Spanish Collection:
Longmont has a large Hispanic population, and our collection of Spanish language books has been growing with the population. Readers will find the latest novels as well as general encyclopedias to check out here.

Literacy Collection: Located south of the Spanish and automotive areas on the west wall , this collection is geared towards the new reader or the person trying to sharpen their English as a second language skills. Books and tapes all check out.

Biographies: Selected adult biographies and autobiographies are located further south and west of the Literacy collection. All items are arranged by Dewey and all can be checked out.

Special Services, Interlibrary Loan (ILL): If after all your searching in the library, you cannot locate what you need, we may be able to obtain the material for you from other libraries through Interlibrary Loan. ILL Information

All Circulating Adult Books: Fiction and nonfiction books are located on the second floor. Fiction is arranged by author’s last name, nonfiction by Dewey number. When using the library's electronic catalogue the term "Adult Collection" refers to items located on the second floor.

Periodicals Special Collections

Magazines: We subscribe to over 400 magazines in print and keep past issues, as well. The Ebsco Research Database offers indexing to hundreds of magazines, many with full-text articles, as well as journals and newspapers we do not currently own. This database is available from your home computer. Go to search catalog on our homepage and then go to online databases.

Newspapers:
We provide most of the Front Range Colorado newspapers as well as a few national newspapers. Our local newspaper, The Longmont Daily Times-Call, is indexed and on microfilm for issues older than 6 months. Three microfilm reader-printers are available, and the costs of prints are ten cents each. The Denver Post and Denver Rocky Mountain News are available online in full-text. Articles can be printed or sent to patron's personal e-mail.

Newspaper index: For the Longmont Ledger and The Longmont Times-Call. This paper index provides access to our microfilm collectio. It begins with the 1870's to about 2008. An online index to the Times-Call will provide access from 2004 to current.

Newspapers on microfilm: Our film covers local papers from the 1870's to current. The library provides three microfilm reader/printers for our patrons to use to view the microfilm or to print from them, copies are ten cents each. Mail or phone requests for obituaries are limited to three with shipping and handling extra.

Business Periodicals: These are located on the east wall north of the Business Reference. Business-related magazines and newspapers can be found here.

Consumer /Index Table: Consumer magazines, and new and used car buying guides are available, as well as information on computers and audio/visual equipment. Current Readers Guides and indexes to National Geographic, American Heritage, and other publications can be found here.

Check-out policy:
Library patrons can check out ten magazines or newspapers for one week, and renew for one week. The Times-Call cannot be checked out nor can the current issues of magazines or other newspapers.
