Airport Master Plan Schedule
The City of Longmont is in the initial process of updating its Airport Master Plan. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) defines a Master Plan as, "a comprehensive study of the airport and typically describes short-, medium-, and long-term plans for airport development."
An Airport Master Plan assesses what the airport could become in terms of facilities (runways, taxiways, hangars, etc), while being careful not to discount future possibilities. It provides governing boards with options on how the airport can be developed and which facility projects could be eligible for federal funding.
A typical Master Plan takes approximately a year to a year and a half to complete. This can be shorter or longer depending on the airport and its complexity.
The Master Plan will be prepared using guidelines from the FAA. These guidelines ensure that all voices are heard and considered in the process. In addition, the City of Longmont is utilizing its Public Involvement Process to insure public involvement and feedback opportunities throughout this process.
The first step of this process is establishing the scope of work for the Master Plan. The draft scope of work has been written by staff and has been reviewed by the Community Involvement Committee established by the City Council for this process. This draft will also be reviewed by the City's Airport Advisory Board and then forwarded on for final approval by the City Council. Once the scope of work is finalized, a project schedule will be drafted.
**Review the Airport Master Plan Final Report **
MASTER PLAN SCHEDULE NOTE:
The following schedule for the Airport Master Plan identifies the general process and places where public involvement will be scheduled in each phase of the project. The City of Longmont will strive to keep the schedule as posted. However, the Federal Aviation Administration must review and approve each section of the Master Plan. The current state of continued Federal Aviation Administration funding by the U.S. Congress is in fluctuation. Therefore, all dates after October 18, 2011 are subject to change. Fourth quarter 2011 dates will be posted when confirmed. Please check back frequently to confirm dates and times of future meetings.
