Experience how Longmont’s sister city Ciudad Guzmán, México celebrates the Days of the Dead in this expanded collaborative exhibit. New this year is a large altar created and installed by artists from Ciudad Guzman. Twelve community altars commemorate loved ones near and far. Discover and compare how other regions in México celebrate the holiday. Take in the colorful and often humorous folk art, including Colorado artist Jerry’s Vigil’s signature blue calaveras. Explore new photographs of Day of the Dead celebrations in Oaxaca and Michoacán by Helen Cuccaro, as well as other new photographs from Ciudad Guzmán and other cities throughout México.
Hands-on activities in the gallery include an interactive altar, where visitors can use traditional elements like sugar skulls, flowers, photos, pan de muertos, and more to build an altar. Also, anyone can tie a personal message written to their deceased loved one to an arch of compassion in the gallery.
