City Offices Closed on Monday
Longmont city government observes Presidents’ Day on Monday, February 21, as a holiday. The following facilities are closed: Civic Center, Service Center, Development Services Center, Library, Senior Center, Museum, Youth Center, and Tree Limb Diversion Center. Recreation facilities will be open regular hours, and the Ice Pavilion will have open skate from 10 am to 5 pm. There will be no trash or recycling collection; it will be collected one day later than usual.
Longmont Resident to Receive Purple Heart
The Mayor and City Council will host a special ceremony at the start of the City Council meeting to present a purple heart to Korean War Veteran and Longmont resident Wes Stiller. Stiller was wounded in combat twice in 1951 once by a grenade and then two weeks later by gunfire. Because of poor record keeping at the time, Stiller never received his purple heart, an honor due wounded service members. With the help of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Chapter 434, Stiller will receive his purple heart with an oak leaf cluster (signifying that he was wounded twice) 59 years after sustaining his injuries.
Free "Business Plan Essentials" Workshop
In partnership with the Longmont Economic Gardening Initiative (LEGI), the Boulder Small Business Development Center is offering workshops in Longmont that are free to Longmont businesses. “Business Plan Essentials” will be held at the Longmont Area Chamber of Commerce, 528 Main Street, on Tuesday, February 22, from 6 to 9 pm. Register for this workshop at www.bouldersbdc.com (select “Longmont Workshops”) or call 303-442-1475 ext. 2. For more information contact Doug Bene, Economic Development Manager, at email@example.com or 303-651-8403.
