Longmont Resident to Receive Purple Heart

The Mayor and City Council will host a special ceremony at the start of the City Council meeting to present a purple heart to Korean War Veteran and Longmont resident Wes Stiller. Stiller was wounded in combat twice in 1951 once by a grenade and then two weeks later by gunfire. Because of poor record keeping at the time, Stiller never received his purple heart, an honor due wounded service members. With the help of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Chapter 434, Stiller will receive his purple heart with an oak leaf cluster (signifying that he was wounded twice) 59 years after sustaining his injuries.
