City Offices Closed for Holiday

Longmont city government observes Independence Day on Monday, July 4, as a holiday. The following facilities will be CLOSED: Civic Center, Service Center, Development Services Center, Library, Senior Center, Museum, Memorial Building, Youth Center, Centennial Pool and Tree Limb Diversion Center. The Recreation Center will be open from 10 am to 4 pm, and Sunset Pool will be open from 10 am to 5 pm. Trash and recycling collection services will be one day late this week. See Fireworks at Fairgrounds

On Monday, July 4, beginning at noon, the City of Longmont presents a free holiday performance of the Longmont Symphony Orchestra in Thompson Park, 4th Avenue and Bross Street. Limited handicap parking is available. Drop-off/pick-up zone is at Bross Street and 5th Avenue. Bring your picnic! Call 303-772-5796 or visit www.longmontsymphony.org for more information. Then, at 9:30 pm watch the fireworks over the Boulder County Fairgrounds on Hover Street. Park at a nearby shopping center and either walk to the fenced area in front of the Jacky Murphy arena, or watch from anywhere within one mile of the fairgrounds.

Council Meeting Cancelled

Construction Starts at RTD Hub Site

Construction work has begun that will lay the foundation for a new RTD transportation hub on Coffman St. between 9th Ave and Longs Peak Ave. Work to repair broken concrete began on Monday and includes new concrete bus pads designed to withstand the constant use from by heavy regional and local RTD (Regional Transportation District) bus traffic. During construction, automobile access through this area is severely reduced and drivers should exercise caution when traveling this stretch of road. All this work is in preparation for relocating the Longmont RTD transfer center from 6th Ave. and Kimbark St. to the regional transfer center at 8th Ave and Coffman park-n-Ride at Roosevelt Park. The local Longmonster busses that currently meet at at the Kimbark location will move over to the 8th and Coffman location starting on Monday, August 22

Citizen Fire Academy Deadline Nears

The application deadline for the second Longmont Citizen Fire Academy is 5 pm on July 15. The seven-week program, from August 3 through September 14, is held on Wednesday nights from 6 to 9 pm at the six Longmont fire stations. There is also a Saturday hands-on day. The Citizen Fire Academy will not train you to be a firefighter but will give you a taste of what the Longmont Fire Department does in our community.
