Telecommunications Services for Longmont

Since 1997 the City of Longmont has operated its own fiber optic network that could serve as a backbone for a range of state-of-the art telecommunications services for the community. Unfortunately, Colorado SB152, enacted in 2005, prohibits the City from using this asset to provide services, either directly or in partnership with other organizations, including private sector companies, unless voters re-establish the City’s right to provide them. City Council has directed staff to develop a ballot question for the upcoming November election that would re-establish the City’s rights if approved by voters. If you would like to know more about this issue, please contact Longmont Power & Communications at 303-651-8793.
