Free Coffee and Conversation with City Council on Saturday
Longmont City Council is hosting Coffee with Council a week early this month due to the Memorial Day holiday. At Coffee with Council, you can talk informally with two council members on any topic of your choice. On Saturday, May 19, council members Alex Sammoury and Katie Witt are scheduled to attend from 9 to 10 am at the OUR Center Hospitality House, 303 Atwood Street. For information about council meetings and agendas, call the City Clerk’s Office at 303-651-8649.
National Police Week Ceremony on Friday
National Police Week, established in 1962 by President Kennedy and a joint resolution of Congress, pays special tribute to law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others. Ceremonies are held in Washington, D.C., and in communities across the country. The public is invited to attend the annual Peace Officer Memorial Service to honor our fallen brothers and sisters held by the Front Range Chaplains and the Longmont Police Department at 1 pm on Friday, May 18, on the front steps of the Safety and Justice Center, 225 Kimbark Street.
Volunteer Range Safety Officers Sought
The Longmont Police Department recently opened an indoor shooting range that will be used by both police staff and civilians. Volunteer Range Safety Officers are needed to supervise shooting activities on Friday nights from 5:30 to 9:30 pm and in 5-hour shifts on Saturdays and Sundays from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm. Volunteers must have valid and current Range Safety Officer training certification. You can find the Range Safety Officer volunteer position description and application at www.ci.longmont.co.us/police/volunteer/sj_volunteers.htm or by calling 303-774-4440. Range safety volunteers must pass a criminal history check and other high security clearance procedures.
Hosts and Sponsors Needed for Bike to Work Day
Longmont needs your business to host or sponsor a breakfast station on Bike to Work Day, June 27. This is an opportunity to promote your business, show your support for pedal power, and reward all the bike riders who participate in this annual event that supports and promotes bicycling as a commute choice. The hope is that once someone tries bicycling, it might turn into a daily routine. Breakfast stations offer free beverages and snacks to those who ride their bike to work between 6:30 and 9 am. The goal is to offer five to ten breakfast stations throughout the city. We are seeking businesses to host and/or to partner with existing venues. Anyone interested in participating can register directly at www3.drcog.org or contact the City of Longmont at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 303-651-8304.
