Outdoor Warning System Test on Monday

The City’s Outdoor Emergency Warning System is being tested at 10 am on Monday, August 6. The system is tested the first Monday of every month through August. Other than for testing, the system will be used only to notify the community when immediate action should be taken. If you hear the sirens and it is not the first Monday of the month at 10 am, seek shelter immediately and tune to local media for information.

Public Opinion Invited on New Ward Boundaries

The Longmont City Charter requires that ward boundaries be reestablished every 10 years so that they contain an approximately equal number of voters. Four options for new boundaries have been developed for consideration, and public comment is welcome. Through August you can get more information and complete an online survey at www.ci.longmont.co.us, complete a comment form at a City facility, or attend one of three open houses to discuss the proposed boundaries. Maps and comment forms are at the Longmont Civic Center, Senior Center, Library, Recreation Center and St. Vrain Memorial Building. The open houses are from 5 to 7 pm on August 13 at the Civic Center, from 6 to 8 pm on August 22 at the Civic Center, and from 7 to 9 pm on August 30 at the Senior Center. Business Planning Workshop Offered

The Leading Edge Entrepreneurship Series is a hands-on, step-by step business planning program for new, startup and pre-startup businesses. This comprehensive series includes business specialists as guest speakers, entrepreneur panelists sharing their experiences, and an experienced facilitator to keep you on track and match you to the resources you need. The 10-session series runs from 6 to 9 pm on Wednesdays, August 29 through December 5, at the Longmont Area Chamber of Commerce, 528 Main Street. Series cost is $495 or $125 for those who qualify for a City of Longmont/LEGI scholarship and $125 for a partner or spouse. Night Skydive Operations at Airport

Night time skydiving operations will be taking place at Vance Brand Airport on Friday, August 3, 2012, from one hour past official sunset time until approximately 11:30 p.m. These night jumps are a requirement in order to receive full certification as required by the United States Parachute Association and the Federal Aviation Administration as a professional skydiver. More night skydive operations are expected in 2012. Tentative dates in 2012 are:

CDBG Funding Available

The City of Longmont is accepting affordable housing and community investment project applications from agencies, organizations, builders and developers for 2013 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), HOME and Affordable Housing Program funding. About $200,000 will be available for competitive Affordable Housing applications, and $50,000 will be available for competitive Community Investment applications.
