Summer Concert Series Kicks Off Tonight
The City’s free summer concerts begin tonight with Chris Daniels and the Kings rockin’ downtown at the intersection of 4th Avenue and Kimbark Street. The opening act performs at 6 pm, then the headliners take the stage from 7 to 9 pm. Food and great local brews will be offered for sale from 6 to 9 pm. Visit Sandstone Ranch This Summer
The Sandstone Ranch Visitor Center at 3001 E Hwy 119 features hands-on displays on environmental features of the area. A nature trail takes you past several historical buildings near the sandstone bluffs and to a scenic overlook. Numerous species of wildlife and birds are seen frequently on the property, including white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, bald eagles and red-tailed hawks. Visitor Center hours June 4 through October are Tuesdays 9 am to noon, second and fourth Saturdays 10 am to 2 pm, and family nights on June 25 and July 23 from 6 to 8 pm. New Business Efficiency Grant Funding Available
Longmont Power & Communications (LPC) is partnering with Platte River Power Authority to reduce the cost of energy efficiency projects. The Business Efficiency Grant Program can provide businesses and nonprofits up to $5,000, or a limit of 75 percent of total costs, for qualifying projects after all rebates are applied. It also can be used with other efficiency rebate programs. Funding is available on a first-come, first-served basis through December 1. Shredding Event Next Weekend
The Longmont Waste Diversion Center at 140 Martin Street will hold a free shredding event from 9 am to 2 pm on Saturday, June 15. Please bring a copy of your most recent Longmont utility bill to show that you pay the waste management fee. This event is for residential documents only; no business materials will be accepted. Bike to Work on Wednesday, June 26
Riding your bike on BIke to Work Day, Wednesday, June 26, will get you a free breakfast and discounts on after-work refreshments. Beginning at 6:30 am, several Longmont venues will offer free coffee and breakfast snacks to those who ride their bike to work. After work, bicycle commuters are invited to participate in Bike Home when local watering holes offer discounts for bicycle commuters. While LPC already provides 3 percent renewable power as part of its energy mix, some residents and businesses would like to receive more.
