It's Time for Rhythm on the River

Rhythm on the River, Longmont’s signature free family event, takes place on Friday, July 12, (5 pm to 8 pm) and Saturday, July 13, (7 am to 8 pm) in Roger’s Grove on Hover Street. Entertainment includes Mojomama, Moses Jones, the Delta Sonics, and The Long Run, plus many more great bands. You also can meet local artists, visit the World Market vendors, and enjoy great food, crafts and activities for children of all ages. And new for 2013, enjoy cool refreshing drinks from local brewers! Beer and wine will be available for purchase. Free parking and shuttle are available at the Boulder County Fairgrounds. Shredding Event on Saturday

The Longmont Waste Diversion Center at 140 Martin Street will hold a free shredding event from 9 am to 2 pm on Saturday, July 13. Please bring a copy of your most recent Longmont utility bill to show that you pay the waste management fee. This event is for residential documents only; no business materials will be accepted. Protect Yourself Against West Nile Mosquitoes

West Nile Virus mosquitoes have been found in Longmont. Residents are urged to protect themselves from mosquitoes by following the 4 Ds:

1. Use DEET-enhanced insect repellent or alternative.

2. DRESS in long sleeves and pants.

3. Avoid the outdoors from DUSK until DAWN.

4. DRAIN standing water outside your home

Register for LPC's Renewable Power Program

In addition to 19 percent hydroelectric power, Longmont Power & Communications provides 3 percent renewable power as part of its energy mix, but some residents and businesses would like to receive more. Kinetics Sculpture Race Returns to Longmont

Kinetics is artists, engineers and athletes who design, build and race kinetic sculptures -imaginatively engineered human-powered works of art. Join the fun from 10 am to 3 pm on Saturday, July 20, at Union Reservoir, 0461 WCR 26, as sculptures and their creators race over land and water in a uniquely zany style. The Kardboard Race for Kids begins at 2 pm. Spectator fee is $10 per carload or $2 per bike/pedestrian. Call 303-651-8406 or visit kineticists.org for more information. Gates open at 9 am.

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Tuesday

Mark your calendars for the Left-hand Creek Flood Control and State Highway 66 Regional Detention Pond Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. We’re celebrating completion of two Storm Drainage projects funded by the 2007 Bond Election on Tuesday, July 16 at 5:30

at Kanemoto Park Parking Lot. The Left-hand Creek Trail runs right by the ceremony location making cycling a great mode of transportation. There will be a short presentation and light refreshments.
