Imposter Claiming to be City of Longmont Employee Going Door-to-Door Demanding Money
MAY 19, 2011 - A man posing as a City of Longmont employee is knocking on doors claiming to represent the Longmont electric utility and demanding payment for overdue bills. The man threatens to cut off electric service if the resident does not pay immediately in cash.
Two victims gave the man money and a third refused. All the victims were of Hispanic descent that spoke only Spanish. They live in the 1200 block of Emery and the 1200 block of Kimbark.
The public should always be wary of anyone who comes to the door asking for cash. City of Longmont personnel always carry identification, wear shirts with City logos and always drive marked vehicles. If in doubt, call the city utility billing division at 303-651-8664 or visit the payment window in person at the Longmont Civic Center located at 350 Kimbark St.
The imposter is described as a white male, 22 to 26 years old, with blonde hair and goatee, approximately 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall, medium build, wearing blue jeans and a white sweatshirt with gray stripes. Anyone with information about this individual should call Longmont Police at 303-651-8501.
