Stop Signs to be Installed at Martin Street Railroad Crossing

Updated: SEPTEMBER 22, 2011 - The City of Longmont Public Works and Natural Resources Department has installed temporary traffic control devices and stop signs on Martin Street at the BNSF Railway track crossing located between 1st and 3rd Avenue.

The City is working with BNSF Railway to install gates and signals at the track crossing to improve public safety. Work is scheduled to begin with the installation of medians at this track crossing as soon as the City has received approval to construct from the Public Utilities Commission. This work will be followed by the installation of gates and signals by BNSF Railway.

Until these gates and signals are installed by BNSF, this interim temporary traffic control and stop signs will be in place at the railroad tracks. These temporary stop signs are being installed to improve public safety at this railroad crossing until such time as the new medians and gates are completed.

The public is advised to be alert to the new stop signs located in the vicinity of the railroad crossing as well as the temporary traffic control and the upcoming median and gate installation on Martin Street.
