Emergency Shelter Open at Memorial Building
OCTOBER 26, 2011 - The City of Longmont opened an emergency shelter at the St. Vrain Memorial Building, 700 Longs Peak Avenue, at 2 pm on Wednesday afternoon, October 26. Wednesday's snow storm has caused numerous power outages throughout the city and many households may be without power through the night.
Anyone without power that needs a temporary place to stay warm is invited to the Memorial Building in Roosevelt Park beginning at 2 pm. A hotline number for sheltering information has been established at 303-651-8595.
The City of Longmont opened its Emergency Operations Center and is monitoring the storm and its impact on roads and electrical power.
To report damaged or downed trees in public areas like streets residents are asked to call 303-651-8468; to report power outages or downed trees on power lines call 303-776-0011 or fill out the online form at http://www.ci.longmont.co.us/WebReqForm.nsf/LPCContactForm?OpenForm.
Individuals who rely on life sustaining systems like oxygen or home dialysis and are without electrical power should consider making other arrangements for power. They should call a neighbor or their doctor for advice. Or they can call the information hotline number at 303-651-8595.
A number of overhead electric services have been damaged during the snow storm. In some cases, the service wires have been pulled down or the service mast pulled away from the house supports. In order to make these repairs safely, LPC requests that customers contact an electrician to repair the weatherhead support structure on the house. If it is possible for the electrician to reconnect the service temporarily, but safely, they may take this action to restore power to the residence. The electrician or customer should call LPC, at 303-774-4357 to report the address so that LPC crews can make permanent connections at a later time, after the storm event. If the electrician cannot make this temporary reconnect, they can repair the support structure but the customer must call into LPC at 303-776-0011 and request a reconnect by our line personnel to restore power.
