SNOW UPDATE: Crews Continue to Clear Streets

DECEMBER 29, 2011 - Longmont Street Division crews began targeted snow and ice removal on Tuesday, December 27 along the same routes that were cleared during last week’s storm. In order to accomplish this task snow plowing and sanding equipment had to be converted into snow removal mode.

The majority of the snow removal work was dedicated to the acceleration and deceleration lanes of arterial roadways. The next task will be tackling the areas around the hospital and a few smaller areas of similar priority. Next the crews will concentrate on the downtown area and school zones in preparation for school to resume next week. The goal is to complete the majority of these high priority areas by the end of the week.

If time permits this week, collector streets will be the next priority. There will likely be more snow and ice removal necessary next week and that will be evaluated early next week.

If there is sufficient progress made this week and the weather hold up, additional areas will be addressed. This work will focus on ice removal from storm drainage inlets and unfinished roadway work. The warm weather through this weekend should help with clean-up efforts.

The parks division crews will continue efforts to clear the remaining sidewalks, greenways and paths in the park system. Crews will revisit locations that have developed ice build-up.

To report problem areas call 303-651-8416.
