Chick Clark Kids Fishing Program on Saturday, March 30
March 21, 2013 -- Children 15 years and younger are invited to the 11th annual Chick Clark Kids Fishing Program Spring Kickoff scheduled for Saturday, March 30, at Izaak Walton Park 18 S. Sunset St. The day includes a free kids’ fishing clinic, free hot dogs for all, and free fishing for kids.
Children who are not preregistered still can participate in the fishing clinic and free fishing but cannot be guaranteed a pole. The clinic and fishing begin at 8 am. Parking is limited so car-pooling is encouraged.
Sponsored by the Colorado Division of Wildlife, City Open Space Program, Kids Fishing, Inc. and the Longmont Optimist Club. They will be providing rods and reels for all participants that have signed up (250). Additionally the Optimist Club will be providing drinks and hot dogs. Program runs from 8 am to 1 pm, but kids can stay all day and fish as we will be stocking a significant number of fish next week to assure the kids are successful.
Additionally at noon Mayor Coombs will be dedicating the Chick Clark Kids fishing pier made possible through the kind contributions of:
- Colorado Division of Parks and Wildlife
- City of Longmont's Open Space Program
- Kids Fishing Inc
- In Memory of Leonard and Dee O'Brien
- Peter Loris and Associates
- Terracon Consultants, Inc
- Lanyon and L&H Clark Fund
The 15.7 acre pond at Izaak Walton Park is managed as a recreational fishery for the exclusive use of children 15 and younger. Adults are encouraged to help kids fish but must preserve the fishing just for children. Kids may use live bait and keep the fish they catch up to the state limit for each species.
