The Pedal with the Police program is designed to facilitate a positive interaction between the Longmont Police Department and the citizens in the City of Longmont. The program utilizes the Longmont Police Department Bike Patrol Unit.
Neighborhood groups should contact the department to set up to Pedal with the Police. We request that your group provides us a two week time frame, if possible, to schedule officers to ride. A minimum of two bike patrol officers will attend the ride. More officers may be needed for larger groups.
The neighborhood groups will set the route and the pace. We recommend that the ride time should be no longer than two hours. However, if there is a good reason why the ride should be longer, we will not cut the ride short.
The time available will allow for neighborhood groups to ask questions and to show officers problems in the neighborhood. The purpose of the ride is not for active policing, although there may be times when police intervention is necessary.
All participants are encouraged to wear bike helmets. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
