2012 Chipseal Program

Update On Current Chip Seal Projects

On Monday, August 13, 2012, Chip Sealing work will be completed on these streets:

*9th Avenue from Francis Street to Hover Street (see map below)
*9th Avenue from Alpine Street to Summer Hawk Drive (see map below)

This work will be performed by A-1 Chip Seal Co. and will include placement of a final thin layer of asphaltic material known as a fog seal. The pavement surface will remain “tacky” for about 1 day but quickly transitions to typical pavement surface conditions after the 24 hour curing period.

Traffic delays can be expected during this work and alternate routes are strongly suggested on Monday, August 13th. We ask drivers to slow down through the construction areas during this final phase of construction.

Chip Seals are surface or preventative maintenance treatments designed to protect and prolong the life of asphalt pavements. A chip seal will extend the time needed before a more costly asphalt overlay is needed-which will result in lower long term street maintenance and rehabilitation costs.

On August 6 and 7, 2012, the resurfacing of some City streets will be performed by A-1 Chip Seal Co. and will include placement of a preventative maintenance technique known as a Chip Seal.

Chip Seal MapChip Seals are surface or preventative maintenance treatments designed to protect and prolong the life of asphalt pavements. A chip seal will extend the time needed before a more costly asphalt overlay is needed-which will result in lower long term street maintenance and rehabilitation costs.

The Chip Seal process does not require the closure of the affected streets but there will be temporary delays during construction and all vehicles must be removed from the street during this process.

Prior to the start of construction, door hangers or other notification methods will be used to inform all residences and businesses when construction is expected to start. "No Parking" signs or construction cones/barricades will be placed at least 24 hours prior to any work. Please note that access to residences and businesses will remain open and trash service schedules will remain unchanged during construction.

If you have any questions, contact Tom Street at (303)651-8694.
