Applicants Needed for Boards and Commissions
Volunteers serve as City Council advisors
OCTOBER 27, 2009 - There are many ways to have an impact in your community - one way is to serve on an advisory board. The City of Longmont has 22 citizen-based boards, committees, and commissions on which over 160 citizens serve. Citizen participation helps to ensure that our local government is truly addressing the needs of the local community through the services, planning and decision making provided by each board. Citizen volunteers provide time, talent, knowledge and enthusiasm that enhance that of elected officials and City Staff.
Every year the City Council recruits to fill expiring terms on many of these boards and commissions. This year there are forty-two positions available on nineteen different boards. The City Clerk’s office will accept applications for these vacancies beginning October 19, 2009.
Why should you get involved?
- It feels good. The satisfaction and pride you feel when helping to create solutions for the whole community is fulfilling.
- It strengthens your community. When the residents of a community work together, they forge strong bonds that are hard to break.
- Share your skills and gain new ones. Your willingness to share your time and knowledge to work through issues helps to ensure that the local government represents the desires of the broader community.
To learn more about these opportunities to give back to your community by serving on a City board, committee or commission, please contact the City Clerk’s Office at 303-651-8649 or visit our web site www.ci.longmont.co.us/boards/vacancy.htm. The deadline for submitting applications is Monday, November 23, 2009.
