Street Project Begins Today; Sidewalk Project Scheduled for Next Week
AUGUST 27, 2009 - Two road/sidewalk projects are scheduled in Longmont this week and next.
PROJECT 1: A two-inch asphalt overlay on 3rd Avenue from Main Street to Martin Street, is scheduled for Saturday, August 29, 2009. The contractor will have localized traffic control set up between 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. This is a mobile operation that will affect one lane at a time. All driveway access locations will remain open the entire time, with the possibility of closing individual driveways for a short period until the fresh asphalt can be driven on.
Premier Paving Inc. will be milling the pavement edge along both sides of the street in preparation for the overly work. This will take place on Thursday and Friday (August 27 and 28) and will have a minimal affect on traffic/access.
For questions about this project, contact Bill McNeal at 303-589 6853 or Richard White at 303-651-8567
PROJECT 2: The City’s Public Works & Natural Resources Department has contracted with Thoutt Bros. to install the missing sidewalk segment along the east side of Sunset Street from Spruce Avenue to just south of the railroad crossing. Construction is scheduled to begin August 31 and will continue for approximately 3 weeks, depending on the weather and other issues.
The project will provide a safer pedestrian access to Izaak Walton Park and the St. Vrain Greenway. The project includes replacement of the existing deteriorated timber railroad crossing with a smoother riding concrete system. This will be one of the first items of work, and will require a full-closure of Sunset Street between Boston Avenue & 3rd Avenue for 4 days. During the full-closure local residents will be allowed to access their driveways. Each residence address shown on the reverse side of this notice will receive a new concrete driveway and will need to allow 24 hours while their driveway sets-up, daily notices will be posted the day before the driveways are done.
Also included in the project are Sunset Street striping changes that will add a bike lane along the east side and a shared bike/parking lane along the west side. The striping will be the last item of work; temporary striping may be needed until the permanent striping is complete.
