Xcel Energy Announces Additional Pipeline Work in Longmont
DECEMBER 15, 2010 - DENVER – Xcel Energy announced today two additional sections of natural gas pipeline will be repaired in Longmont along Hover Street. The original project began last Friday between 14th and 17th avenues. The additional repairs are not expected to prolong the construction project which is still scheduled to be completed December 23rd.
The first of the two repairs will be north of the 17th Avenue intersection on Hover Street. Southbound traffic will be restricted to one lane and will temporarily prohibit left turns from the southbound lane. This is not expected to impact business access.
The second repair will be on Hover Street between Lykins Gulch Road and the driveway access on the north side of Home Depot. Southbound traffic will shift but two lanes of traffic will be maintained and access to businesses will not be affected.
This additional work is part of a project that will replace a 1,200-foot segment of natural gas pipe. Xcel Energy and the City of Longmont believe completing these repairs as part of the current project is in the best interest of customers and the city.
Xcel Energy will notify affected customers of lane closures. Customers can call Customer Service at 1-800-895-4999 with any other questions.
Xcel Energy Announces Pipeline Work in Longmont, Traffic Along Hover Street to be Affected
DECEMBER 10, 2010 - DENVER – Xcel Energy announced today work is underway on replacing a natural gas pipeline in Longmont along Hover Street between 14th and 17th avenues. Road closures are expected during construction which will run through December 23rd. Traffic delays are expected and motorists are advised to use alternate routes during construction.
Starting today crews will uncover and replace a 1,200-foot segment of natural gas pipe. The first part of the project includes clearing the current line of natural gas. Customers may notice the mercaptan odor at this time.
Once the line is cleared of natural gas, crews will begin digging up the current line and replacing the eight-inch line. Xcel Energy crews will use the center turn lane to stage equipment. Portions of Hover Street will be closed during this time. Xcel Energy is working with the City of Longmont to ensure minimal impact to residents and businesses.
Delaying this work until after the holiday season was considered, but the condition of the pipeline requires immediate attention. In addition, construction crews wanted to take advantage of the unseasonably warm temperatures to complete the work.
Customers can call Xcel Energy Customer Service at 1-800-895-4999 with concerns or questions.
