JULY 18, 2011 - Longmont needs the public's help in planning a better bus system.
No one knows the local bus needs better than the riders, so the City is asking for your help! The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, July 21 from 4-6 pm at the Development Services Center at 385 Kimbark St (just across Kimbark from the library--old County courthouse).
The City recently hired a consultant (Steer Davies Gleave--SDG) to provide a plan for the 1st & Main St. Station Area. The consultant would like to sit down with you and discuss Longmont transit issues.
The Regional Transportation District (RTD) is planning to create a new Park-n-Ride at 1st & Main for Longmont's buses (including Call-n-Ride, local, regional and FLEX buses) in the next 5 years. In the very short term, starting August 22 and continuing until the new 1st & Main station is complete, the local and regional transfer facility will be located at 8th & Coffman St. Although the 6th & Kimbark St. facility will no longer be the meeting place for local buses, it will continue to be served by a local route (the 323). RTD's long-term plan is to add rail service at 1st & Main. With all these changes coming, the City's consultant will help with creating a short and long term look at local transit routing in Longmont.
Please be prepared to talk about popular destinations around the City for local transit riders as well as where the popular bus stops are (or could be). This meeting is not intended to discuss problems with the current service and participants are asked to wait until the next RTD public hearing to discuss current issues as the consultant is not affiliated with RTD. The goal for this group is to plan a better bus system for the City of Longmont, then work with RTD to carry out the plan. The first step is to meet with bus riders.
