OCTOBER 14, 2011 - Longmont Power & Communications (LPC), the City of Longmont’s municipal electric provider, announced that it has accepted delivery of the final truck in its new fleet of four electric hybrid vehicles. Trucks in this fleet can be identified by their white exterior with lime-green accents and the words “Hypower” on the side. They also carry the LPC signature logo on both driver and passenger side doors.
“Our new fleet has been regularly visible throughout LPC’s territory and has improved our ability to serve customers,” said Tom Roiniotis, Director of Longmont Power & Communications. “These trucks run more quietly because they don’t have to idle their engines while operating power equipment at job sites. The diminished noise lessens the impact on neighborhoods, particularly at night, and also increases employee safety as crews are better able to hear each other.”
The LPC hybrid vehicle fleet consists of one digger derrick and three bucket trucks. Crews will use them to take care of outages and daily calls, repair street lights and perform regular maintenance. The use of these trucks in daily work will result in fuel savings and reduce the impact on our environment.
