OCTOBER 27, 2011 - Longmont Power & Communications (LPC) crews are making steady progress on restoring power throughout the city, but some households are still without power. With that in mind, the City of Longmont will open the St. Vrain Memorial Building, 700 Longs Peak Ave., on Thursday night at 4 pm for those needing shelter and a warm meal. For sheltering information and/or transportation to the shelter the public can call the hotline number at 303-651-8595.
LPC has made progress restoring power throughout its service territory. Call volumes have decreased as restorations proceed. From 7am to 5 pm yesterday, LPC handled more than 2,300 calls. Today, 450 calls were taken between 7am to noon.
Crews began repairing power lines at 11:30 pm on Tuesday evening and restoring power has been a two-step process. Ahead of repair crews, a reconnaissance effort is occurring where LPC crews canvass the community to evaluate problems, assess safety concerns, and develop a list of items that needed to be fixed for each outage. This reconnaissance process is expected to be completed by later today. While the reconnaissance effort is ongoing, LPC is making repairs based on the information these teams provide.
Repairs that LPC has completed to date include work on main electric distribution lines, work on damaged tap lines beyond fuses and work on damage to low voltage secondary lines and service lines connected to customer locations. Due to the volume of these repairs, LPC continues to receive assistance from Fort Collins utility staff and contracted crews to help with work.
If customers want to be sure that LPC is aware of their outage, they can complete an online outage reporting form located on the City's website or call 303-776-0011. As restoration update information becomes available, LPC will continue to update the City's Website and the City's main Facebook page.
LPC continues to encourage customers to be as safe as possible as power is restored. Please do not attempt to trim or remove trees that are, or could come in contact with, electric lines. If customers need electricity for critical medical systems, such as oxygen, LPC encourages them to make backup plans until electricity is restored.
