Blue Skies, 1520 Mountain Drive

Blue Skies Welcome

The 11 acre park was designed around a flight timeline with themed images found throughout the park. The name Blue Skies is a common airline pilot phrase and was suggested for a park name since the Longmont Municipal Airport is nearby. Designed by Winston Associates in 2004-2005, the park was constructed by ECI Site Construction Management in 2005-2006. The park was opened to the public in 2006.

Find the interpretive sign near the parking lot and playground. The pterodactyl plaza (early in time) with boulder "eggs" - is found at the east end of the park. Travel through time as you walk west. Sandblasted images in stone pavers include: a meadowlark, dragonfly and monarch butterfly, a Chinese dragon, Leonardo DiVinci's flying machines and unique signature, the Wright Brothers bi-plane, Amelia Earhart's plane, a Sci-Fi rocket. Also found are gardens developed around the Bird and Butterfly and DiVinci images, and a skate park created to resemble some of the elements of the Amelia Earhart plane, X-15 and 747 plazas and a rocket ship climber in the playground.

The park also offers two reservable shelters (shelter reservations). Please note; for all 2010 shelter reservations the fee will be $35.00 for resident and $44.00 for non-resident

Blue Sky East Shelter

The park is located along Dry Creek #1 in southwestern Longmont. A future community park will be built north of Blue Skies park. Blue Mountain Elementary School is north of the park.
