MAP
The Longmont's Police Department and Boulder County Sheriff's Office range is complete. It is important to note that supervision and safety monitoring is important to the city. Equally as important is the fact that this premier facility will follow the Longmont Police Department's model of "Policing in Partnership with the People".
Building Dedication Ceremony was held on March 8, 2012.
ABOUT THE RANGE
- Indoor facility with ballistic baffling designed to safely keep all rounds fired from leaving the building
- Shooting stations ranging from 3 yards to 100 yards. This is one of the only 3 known 100 yard indoor ranges in the State of Colorado, and one of only 10 in the United States
- Five foot wide lighted ballistic shooting partitions
- Filtered ventilation system will control the conditions inside the range to provide optimum indoor shooting environment. This means that users will not be ingesting aerosolized contaminates created when weapons are fired. Due to filtration system used the air exhausted from the range is cleaner than the air when it enters the facility.
- Range will allow most common hunting calibers as well as lead ammunition
- Total containment bullet traps which allow recycling of all fired materials
- Targets are recoverable to the 25 yard shooting positions
- Safety is the core value of every range operation. In order to promote safety on the range, a public address system has been installed to insure all users can hear instructions for when it is safe to fire
LAW ENFORCEMENT USE - NOW OPEN
The Longmont Police Department and the Boulder County Sheriff's Office will begin using the facility immediately following construction completion to get staff trained and prepared to operate the range equipment properly.
Special features for use by law enforcement:

- raised ceiling height to adapted to allow for tactical vehicles for training
- zero to twenty-five yard 180 degree tactical live fire shooting area
- three target systems to include turning targets, retrievable targets, and moving targets
- The 2700 foot indoor non-ballistic shoot house (SIMS house) which allows walls to be moved to create a variety of training environments, which officers can utilize in order to improve their skills. This can be used from anything from new officer training to tactical training.
The building also allows for vehicles to enter the facility for use during vehicle stop training and vehicle search training.
It also allows for a variety of K-training scenarios. The SIMS house also has two breaching doors which officers can use to train for forced entry. Law enforcement may also have use of this building for crime scene processing training.

An advisory committee, composed of Longmont residents and representatives of shooting enthusiasts,
continue to meet in order to develop the facility for use by residents. Safety concerns were addressed throughout the policy development and allows for access to shooters of all experience levels.
The advisory group is also looking at partnerships with the Colorado Department of Parks and Wildlife for hunter safety courses as well as other organizations for their use in developed programs.
