management, supervision, and financial control to the following areas: Street
Construction, Transportation
Engineering and Maintenance, Parks and Trails Development, Water and Wastewater Utilities Engineering, and Storm Drainage Engineering.

- 23rd Avenue & Meadow Street Culvert Project - The Public Works and Natural Resources Department has contracted with Brannan Construction Company to install two 36-inch culverts under the railroad tracks east of the intersection of 23rd Avenue and Meadow Street and two 18-inch culverts under the Rough & Ready Greenway Trail on the west side of the Prairie Village subdivision. The purpose of this project is to reduce flooding on Meadow Street and private property during storm events.
- 2011 Street Rehabilitation Program -The City’s annual Street Rehabilitation Program contracts with private sector contractors for replacement of broken curbs and sidewalks, preventive maintenance such as crack sealing, chip sealing and pavement overlay and reconstruction.
- County Line Road Improvements, Phase 2- Roadway widening project from just south of the Greatwestern Railroad Crossing north to approximately 1/4 mile past 9th Avenue.
- Lefthand Creek Project - Lefthand Creek is a multi-purpose project that will reduce the floodplain area, replace the South Pratt Parkway Bridge, add bridge structures at Main Street, enlarge the Lefthand Creek Channel between Main Street and South Pratt Boulevard, improve the channel on the north side of Pike Avenue, and reconstruct the bike path to cross under South Pratt Parkway.
- Downtown Alley Improvements -
The City and the LDDA are undertaking a project to improve the downtown alleys including the pedestrian experience and open new economic opportunities.
Other PW&NR Responsibilities
Other tasks associated with this service are project management, preparing designs, construction
specifications, cost estimates, and contract documents. Staff also administers
contracts while construction takes place and reviews the work to ensure that
it meets City standards. This service offers technical assistance to other
City departments, the City Council,
and various City boards and commissions.
